To install SMPlayer, just run these commands in a terminal:

Can not use mate desktop with x2go on Ubuntu 16.04

Add the following to $HOME/.profile:

export GSETTINGS_SCHEMA_DIR=/usr/share/mate:/usr/local/share:/usr/share
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share/mate:/usr/local/share:/usr/share

Can not use x2go single application mode on Ubuntu 16.04

# systemctl stop x2goserver

Add 'X2GO_NXAGENT_DEFAULT_OPTIONS=" -extension BIG-REQUESTS"' to /etc/x2go/x2goagent.options

# systemctl start x2goserver

The error message for this problem was a bit vague:

Error: Failure reading from the peer proxy.
Error: Connection with remote peer broken.
Error: Please check the state of your network and retry.

Problem with vlc and Intel integrated GPU

If you experience a problem with vlc so that the video is always on top of any other program, this xorg config snippet will help.

Add the following to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:

Change font rendering settings (KDE/Firefox)

$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/fontconfig == $HOME/.config/fontconfig

On Ubuntu XDG_CONFIG_HOME is not defined. Its value defaults to $HOME/.config.
