Powertop has a list of tunables for power management for a laptop running Linux.

$ sudo apt-get install powertop

You can see them in the rightmost tab in the powertop UI.

$ sudo powertop

To automatically set the “Bad” tunables to “Good”, follow these steps:

Disconnect your power source.
Run “$ sudo powertop --calibrate” and let it run while not using your computer.
Powertop will create a file /var/cache/powertop/saved_results.powertop. Copy that file to /var/cache/powertop/saved_parameters.powertop.
Add “TERM=vt100 /usr/sbin/powertop --auto-tune” into /etc/rc.local before “exit 0”.

Restart your machine: $ sudo reboot
